- Onion: Finely chopped onions serve as the flavor base for many recipes. They bring a subtle sweetness and an aromatic element to the stew.
- Carrots: Baby carrots offer a natural sweetness and contribute to the hearty texture of the stew. They also add a vibrant color and provide a good source of vitamins and minerals.
- Mushrooms: Sliced mushrooms add an earthy and meaty flavor to the stew. They bring a delightful chewiness and an extra layer of richness to the dish.
- Bell Pepper: The addition of bell pepper adds a pop of color, sweetness, and a slightly tangy flavor to the stew. It complements the other ingredients harmoniously and adds a fresh component.
- Beef or Vegetable Broth: The choice of broth depends on your dietary preferences.
- Oil: A neutral-flavored oil, such as vegetable oil or olive oil, is used to brown the meat and sauté the vegetables, adding depth and richness to the overall taste.
- Spices: A combination of spices enriches the stew’s flavor profile. Classic choices include paprika, salt and pepper, granulated onion and garlic.

How to make homemade stew;
- In a bowl, coat the meat chunks with flour, shaking off any excess. This step helps to thicken the stew as it cooks.
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the coated meat and cook until nicely browned on all sides. This step helps to seal in the juices and create a flavorful base.
- Remove the browned meat from the pot and set it aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion, carrots, mushrooms, and bell pepper (if using), and cook until the vegetables start to soften, usually around 5 minutes.
- Return the browned meat to the pot, then pour in the beef or vegetable broth. Add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 1 hour, or until the meat becomes tender and the flavors meld together beautifully. Stir occasionally during this time to prevent sticking.
- Taste the stew and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve the stew hot, garnished with fresh parsley, over a generous scoop of creamy mashed potatoes. The combination of the flavorful stew with the creamy mashed potatoes creates a perfect balance and adds an exquisite touch to the dish.
