Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup low fat milk
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast: Begin by combining warm milk (about 105°F to 115°F), 1 tbsp honey and the yeast in a small bowl. Let it rest for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and salt. Stir in the oil, honey, and egg, followed by the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If you have a stand mixer, use the dough hook for about 6-8 minutes.
  • First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel. Allow it to rise in a warm environment until it doubles in size, which should take about 1 hour.
  • Shape the Rolls: After rising, punch down the dough and divide it into 13-14 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place them on a baking sheet, spacing them out evenly.
  • Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls again and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes, until puffy and light.
  • Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the rolls with a little bit of egg wash. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
  • Cool and Serve: Once out of the oven, brush gently with oil. These rolls are best enjoyed warm and can be paired with soups, salads, or served alongside your favorite main dishes.
